latest research findings on the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome,

The latest research findings on the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, MERS Corona virus have pointed out that the source of infection in human beings could be the camels.
New #England Journal of Medicine in its latest report has revealed that a Saudi man who became infected with and died of the MERS virus got the infection from a camel in his own herd which was also sick.

The study has reinforced the belief that camels are one of the main source transmitting the MERS Corona virus infection from animals into human beings.
Scientists have said camel’s nasal secretions were to blame for the disease.
The MERS Corona virus has infected 691 people and killed at least 284 of them in Saudi Arabia alone since its discovery in the #Saudi Kingdom in September 2012.
Although most of the cases of the disease have been in Saudi Arabia, the virus has been imported to more than a dozen other countries.

Private schools come under the provision of RTI Act: CIC

Central Information Commission ruled that the private schools which were governed by a law such as the Delhi Education Act come under the provisions of Right to Information (RTI) Act.

It ruled that aided or unaided, the school is duty bound under Sections 4 and 8 of Delhi Education Act 1973 to abide by the regulatory conditions of service, payment of salaries as prescribed for which school has to maintain records which provide an inherent and implied right to information to their employees.

Under Right to Education Act 2009 also, the recognised school is under an obligation to appoint eligible teachers and provide them with prescribed wages. This also reveals that it has given inherent right to information to the teachers from their employers.

Governance

Here is some really good study material on Indian Culture and Heritage

Here is some really good study material on Indian Culture and Heritage from National Open School (NOS) now renamed as NIOS,
for Both Hindi and English medium aspirants. (Download Links given @Bottom of this article).
The content is less boring and more structured than Spectrum’s book on Indian Culture + truckload of 2 markers scattered throughout the paragraphs.
By the way,

UPSC included World History topic since Mains Examination 2013

Syllabus includes following topics:
History of the world will include events from 18th century such as
  1. industrial revolution
  2. world wars
  3. redrawal of national boundaries
  4. colonization
  5. decolonization
Political philosophies and their forms and effect on the society:
  1. communism
  2. capitalism
  3. socialism

Paper I contains following topics of geography:

In 2013, UPSC updated the Mains syllabus for Civil Service Exam. Accordingly
  1. Salient features of world’s physical geography.
  2. Distribution of key natural resources across the world (including South Asia and the Indian sub-continent);
  3. Factors responsible for the location of primary, secondary, and tertiary sector industries in various parts of the world (including India)
  4. Important Geophysical phenomena such as earthquakes, Tsunami, Volcanic activity, cyclone etc.,
  5. Geographical features and their location- changes in critical geographical features (including water-bodies and ice-caps) and in flora and fauna and the effects of such changes.
  6. Infrastructure: Energy, Ports, Roads, Airports, Railways etc

Structure of CSAT paper II (Aptitude)

  • Total Questions: 80
  • Total Marks: 200
  • Marks for correct answer: 2.5
  • Negative marking: Yes MINUS 0.83 marks. i.e. -33% of correct answer.
  • Sectional cutoffs: No. They combine marks for both paper I and paper II to select candidates for next stage the Mains exam.

Four Sections of CSAT Paper II (Aptitude)
  1. Comprehension (i) to test your understanding (ii) to test English
  2. Reasoning
  3. Mathematics
  4. Decision making (without negative marking)

By and large the structure for prelims was like following

  1. There would be about 20 questions on History. You had to Mugup old NCERT + any coaching notes regarding location of Harappa sites and other boring trivial things.
  2. There would be 30-40 questions on Geography (including places in news): so you had to prepare old NCERTs + competitive magazines + TheHindu accordingly.
  3. About 40 questions on science: NCERT + GS manual.
  4. Prelims GS questions used to be current affairs heavy : Almost 40 questions on persons/places in news, books-authors, sports, awards, science-tech etc. so competitive magazines (chronicle wizard etc) and coaching class material on current affairs compilation were precious.
  5. Remaining was filled up with polity, aptitude etc questions to make a paper with total 150 questions.
